==Connect the Tracker to Tachograph==
There are several methods to physically connect your Teltonika device to a tachograph. The method depends on your tachograph model, see [[Supported Tachographs]].

===FMS===

If the FMS interface on your tachograph has the RDD (Remote Data Download) signal, you can use the FMS interface to download DDD files:
* Connect the '''CANx LOW''' and '''CANx HIGH''' wires from the tracker to '''PIN 6''' and '''PIN 9''' on the '''FMS''' connector of the tachograph.
* Additionally, '''PIN 10''' can be used for ignition detection using '''DIN1''' wire.

If the RDD signal is not available on the FMS interface, look into other connection methods.

===Rear Panel Tachograph Connection (Tacho C Socket)===

Before using this method, you must measure the tachograph CAN line resistance while the tachograph is switched off:
# Turn off the vehicle ignition.
# Measure resistance between the '''C5 (CAN2 H)''' and '''C7 (CAN2 L)''' contacts.
# If the multimeter shows ~120 Ω, skip the next step.
# If the multimeter shows resistance in the kiloohm range, use a wire to interconnect tachograph '''C8 (CAN-RES)''' and '''C7 (CAN2 L)''' contacts.
# Re-measure the resistance of the line – it has to be ~120 Ω.
Only after succesfully ensuring that the resistance of the line is ~120 Ω, connect '''CAN2 L''' and '''CAN2 H''' wires to tachograph C socket pins '''C5 (CAN2 H)''' and '''C7 (CAN2 L)'''.

Notes:
* All of the same level CAN-L and CAN-H wires must be interlaced with each other.

* CAN wire needs to be installed as far as possible from the GSM antenna.

===Front Panel K-Line===
Use the front panel K-Line connector to download DDD files and read live data from tachograph. The cable is designed for easy installation and does not cover the buttons or the screen of the tachograph.

The tachograph must be activated to get data from the front interface. By default, remote DDD files from Front Interface is disabled from the factory. To check if your tachograph is already enabled, contact your VDO service or use "tachocheck" SMS command.

====Continental VDO Tachograph Activation====
All supported Continental VDO Digital Tachographs can be activated,  but the activation process is different for version ranges 1.3a-2.2 and 3.0-4.0.

==Configure Tracker Settings==
For the tracker to download files from the tachograph, certain settings need to be configured in the Configurator.

Main configuration is done in the „CAN / Tachograph“ menu.

* DDD download source – to which CAN line tachograph is connected.
* Tachograph ignition source – which DIN is connected to vehicle ignition ("Ignition" parameter - tachograph ignition source will be the same as configured in "System" -> "Ignition Source").

* Status - functionality enabling;
* Domain – server domain where files will be send;
* Port – server port where files will be send;

==Check the Connection==
After connecting and configuring the tachograph, check if your setup works properly. Send the ''tachocheck'' SMS message to the device – it is used to get tachograph status.

This indicates that DDD files can be downloaded from the tachograph. If you see any other TRC responses, e.g. 100, 110, 101 – perform Basic connection troubleshooting (see below).
====Response structure explanation====
* DDD download source – the source for DDD file downloads set in the Configurator (e.g. CAN_2, KLN, etc.).
* Tachograph responses (TRC):
** T – Tachograph presence on CAN bus (ability to respond to requests on CAN lines):
*** 0 = tachograph does not respond on the CAN bus;
*** 1 = tachograph responds on the CAN bus.
** R – Tachograph response to “Open Remote Session” validity check (ability to open a remote session):
*** 0 = failed to open remote session (wrong or unknown response);
*** 1 = tachograph responds (remote session opened successfully).
** C – Tachograph response to “Close Last Authentication Session” validity check (last remote session closed successfully):
*** 0 = failed to close last authentication session (wrong or unknown response);
*** 1 = last authentication session closed successfully - the device is ready to open a new authentication session.
* FMS data presence on CAN bus:
** four zeros in response (0000) = no FMS data;
** non-zero response = FMS data detected.
* K-line data presence on CAN bus:
** 0 = K-Line data is present on the CAN bus;
** 1 = K-Line data is not present on the CAN bus.
* Tachograph address – address used for remote DDD data reading.
* Baudrate – CAN bus baudrate in kbps.
* Ignition status – status of ignition source selected in Configurator.

===Basic Connection Troubleshooting===
If the TRC data in tachocheck SMS response is not “111”, do the following basic troubleshooting steps:
# Ignition of your vehicle was OFF during testing – try again with ignition ON.
# Check basic cable connections : loose or broken pins and connectors, corrosion, CAN wires not interlaced.
# Configurator settings are incorrect:
## Check “DDD download source”;
## Check “CAN bus speed” (baudrate);
## Check tachograph address.
