Introduction

This page is dedicated for explanation of General OBD II settings in Teltonika configurator.

OBD II settings

OBD II Feature

  • Disable ― Disables OBD II parameter requesting/reading from the vehicle.
  • OBD (Auto) ― OBD Auto refers to the functionality that utilizes the OBD II standard protocol, which supports standardized Parameter IDs (PIDs), such as PID 010D for vehicle speed. When OBD Auto is enabled, the device sends Mode 01 (Show Current Data) requests to the vehicle's ECU, allowing access to standard parameters like vehicle speed, engine RPM, and more.
  • OBD Non-Compliant ― OBD Non-Compliant mode refers to vehicles that do not support the OBD II standard protocol (recommended setting for EV’s). As a result, standard Parameter IDs (PIDs) defined by the OBD II specification such as vehicle speed (010D) - cannot be requested.Instead, this mode relies exclusively on OEM-specific parameters or non-standard data formats, which can vary significantly across different vehicle makes and models.
  • ELD ― Electronic Logging Device (ELD) functionality, enabling it to automatically record and transmit key vehicle and engine usage data. This feature is particularly beneficial for fleet management, driver log-book maintenance, and regulatory compliance. After enabling ELD - new section with J1939 parameters can be found in „ELD“ section on the left bottom of configurator.

ELD Data Send Period ― ELD data send period (s) – Sets period of ELD data sending via Bluetooth. Period range from 2 to 65535 seconds.

  • Send ELD data via Bluetooth ― By enabling ELD functionality, additional Send ELD data via Bluetooth menu appears in OBD II Settings screen. ELD data sending via Bluetooth can be toggled in this menu. Send period (s) can be adjusted, if function is enabled.

OBD VIN Settings

VIN Source

  • Auto detect ― Automatically acquire VIN number from the vehicle via OBD.
  • Manually ― Enter VIN value manually.

OBD Features

Odometer Unit Type

  • Automatic ― Autodetects if vehicle odometer in km or miles, will convert to km if needed.
  • No Conversion ― Set odometer units to km, no conversion is done.
  • Convert From Miles ― Set odometer units to miles, will convert from miles to kilometers.

OEM Reset

Reset current OBD OEM file (initiate new OBD OEM file download). You can verify whether the OBD OEM file has been successfully downloaded in the FOTA web portal.

OBD II Elements

Configure I/O elements received from the OBD socket to include their data into AVL packets.

  • OBD elements can be found here.
  • OBD OEM elements can be found here.
  • OBD EV (electric vehicle) specific elements (AVL ID's*) list and their descriptions can be found here.

* The AVL ID list is a table that shows all the data values the Teltonika GPS tracker can send to a server

OBD Parameter List

Parameter List is a catalog of all configuration settings for the Teltonika GPS tracker. It shows each parameter’s ID, type, default value, and allowed range so you can configure how the device behaves. Can be found here.
