Project description

Millions of people are using motorcycles daily as the main of transport and there are more than 200 mln. motorcycles in the world (including mopeds, motor scooters, motorized bicycles). The delivery company in Nairobi is using motorcycles for fast and efficient delivery to avoid road delays, so they need to have a clear view of motorcycles location for fast delivery and protect against theft.

Implementation description

The main criteria were to track motorcycle trip distance (using Trip scenario), count working hours (get to server information/time period when the ignition is on and off.) and secure against theft (using auto geofence, towing detection, unplug detection and jamming detection scenarios).
The client chose FMB9Y0 device because of ultra-small size for easy installation and fulfilled the requirements of functionality. For additional needs we suggest to use other trackers: FMB964, FMB202, FMB204.

Devices

Must have

  • Auto Geofence – Auto geofence is on when the ignition is off and automatically set down the radius (e.g. 10 meters) around the motorcycle. Notification will come if someone drags/moves motorcycle from the set radius.
  • Trip – trip scenario will start to count distance when the ignition is on and defines a minimum speed and end the trip when will identify that ignition is off in set period (e.g. 60 seconds).
  • Towing detection - this scenario will switch on when someone tow or lift the motorcycle. Notification via Call or SMS will be sent to the predefined phone number.
  • Unplug detection – FMB920 will send immediately event packet via GPRS or send SMS when is unplugged. Not suitable for FMB900, because the device doesn’t have an internal backup battery.
  • Jamming detection – When a jamming event is detected you can use connection DOUT to Relay – it blocks motorcycle engine starter and disables possibility to start the engine.

Nice to have

  • DOUT Control Via Call - When a call is received from a number which is on the authorized numbers list, the device can turn on or off DOUT. Activating/deactivating DOUT, you can control relay, which can block a motorcycle's starter and disables the possibility to start the engine.
  • Sleep modes - power consumption can be reduced to preserve motorcycle battery time.
  • 6 - 30 V DC with overvoltage protection - wide voltage range gives the possibility to connect all kinds of motorcycles, mopeds, motor scooters, motorized bicycles.
